GRO represents a framework of activities focused on promoting gender equality and fostering institutional culture at University of Chemistry and Technology, Prague. GRO is an acronym derived from the Czech phrase Genderová ROvnováha (“Gender Balance”).
The foundations of GRO were established between 2014 and 2017 through the international TRIGGER project and the subsequent PEDICEV project (LE14016, Ministry of Education EUPRO II programme). These projects focused on long-term institutional change in the field of gender equality in science and research. Anna Mittnerová served as the principal investigator of both projects.
Although the project funding has ended, gender equality remains an active and important topic at UCT Prague. Today, GRO connects the historical project activities with current initiatives and serves as a gateway to ongoing programmes, events, and support tools.
The key areas addressed by GRO over the long term include work–life balance, support for early-career researchers, equal representation of women and men in decision-making positions, and the integration of the gender dimension into research and education.
GRO is therefore not a closed project, but rather a foundation for the long-term development and cultivation of the academic environment at UCT Prague.

University of Chemistry and Technology, Prague joined the principles of the European Charter for Researchers and the Code of Conduct for the Recruitment of Researchers in 2020.
The Charter and Code commit research institutions to creating supportive working conditions, promoting professional development, and applying transparent recruitment procedures. They are intended for researchers and employers working in both the public and private sectors.
On 4 January 2023, UCT Prague received the HR Excellence in Research Award from the European Commission.
The European Commission introduced Gender Equality Plans (GEPs) in 2020 as a tool to strengthen balanced representation of women and men in research and innovation.
A Gender Equality Plan represents an institution’s commitment to promoting gender equality and forms part of its development strategy. Each institution defines its own objectives and measures according to its specific needs. Having an implemented GEP is also one of the eligibility requirements for public universities and research organizations applying for funding under the Horizon Europe programme.
When preparing its GEP, University of Chemistry and Technology, Prague built on activities already carried out within the framework of the European TRIGGER project. Until 2021, the key strategic document guiding institutional and cultural change in line with gender equality principles was the Transformation Plan. For the period 2022–2026, an updated action plan entitled the Gender Equality Plan (GEP) was prepared.
The Gender Equality Plan was approved on 29 December 2021 by the Rector of UCT Prague, prof. Dr. RNDr. Pavel Matějka.
University of Chemistry and Technology, Prague has long been committed to fostering a respectful, fair, and supportive environment. The university rejects all forms of behaviour that violate human dignity, including discrimination, aggression, bullying, intimidation, sexual violence, and other forms of abuse or oppression.

The Zkumavka Children’s Group at University of Chemistry and Technology, Prague is intended for university employees and students, and above all for their children. The aim of this project, supported by the European Social Fund, is to improve employment opportunities for parents with young children.
Zkumavka focuses on short-term childcare services designed to help parents participate in work or study even when they are unable to place their child in a kindergarten or nursery. The group is intended for children from the age of two until the start of compulsory school attendance.
(Zkumavka has been officially registered in the national register of children’s groups since 26 October 2015.)
The Counselling and Career Centre at UCT Prague provides support in the areas of mentoring, career development, psychological and socio-legal counselling, wellbeing, personal development, and work–life balance.
